Okay, thought it might be useful to list the major bugs/annoyances/glitches
so far for this otherwise excellent game. At least people won't be thinking
the problem lies with them...

Major Bugs;

1) Lag. Especially on ranked servers. Even with a low ping (<25ms)
constant lag outs and game freezes. EA servers seem especially bad to the
point of making combat/vehicle use impossible. No known workable solutions.

2) Server browser. This is borked. Wrong pings reported, many are at 0.
How come servers are pinging either 0, 47 or 66, nothing in between? Keeps
freezing. Some filters are reported as not working. No known workable
solutions.

3) Crashes to desktop. No error messages. Happens for me at the end of
round, but not always. Others have reported after 30 mins or so. No known
workable solutions.

4) Killing enemy can report a tk. Enemy player will show as red on your hud
and according to the tab list be on the enemy side, but killing them results
in a punished tk. It would seem that the other player does not see this, as
when I raised this on a server the player I had killed was not aware it had
been reported as a tk? No known workable solutions and the problem is not
easily duplicated.

5) ?

Glitches;

1) Slow downs on some maps reported. This occurred especially early on in
BF1942 too.

2) Key remapping is a PITA. At least if there is a clash, tell us with
which mapping so we can clear the damn thing without studying it for ages
each time. As this is a one time thing, though, not a big issue?

3) I have noticed graphical glitches such as the wheels appearing on top of
jeeps in the Oman map. Nothing serious, though.

4) ?

Annoyances/quibbles;

1) The preset voice menu is rubbish. Takes too long and you have to use the
mouse, which is impossible whilst, for example, running away from a tank!
At least have an alternative old style system. I like the way it will
report what you are spotting, but again if you are hiding behind a wall from
a tank, you have to manually type a warning. This should be refined
somehow?

2) Some have reported that the weapons are not accurate enough. I wonder if
this is quite deliberate gameplay balancing but it is annoying to miss when
on single shot. A bit like the Brothers In Arms problems.

3) Personally, I don't like the way the choppers/planes handle. I preferred
the DC method. May have been more difficult but I think gave better
control.

4) Sniper rifles aren't powerful enough and don't zoom enough.

5) Your HUD gets a bit busy. I can't see options to customize this?

6) This is an annoyance, but I am fed up of joining squads and the leader
then sits in a bloody tank so you can't spawn if there are 2 people in it.
Maybe fix this so that you can still spawn next to the tank if it is full?
Also, if the leader is in a plane maybe have some device to remotely blow
their PC up for being an arsehole.

7) ?

Finally, the best bits about the game?

Graphics are great. Very large levels and great design - I love the ones
with the dams, lots of pipes and nooks and crannies. How brilliant is the
camera guided missile in the AH64? Heat guided missiles. Joy. Iron
sights. Lovely. Medics with defribs. UAV and commander system. Bril.
Squad system - genius. This really makes the game for me. Claymores for
snipers - great thought. The engine sounds in the tanks. Ramps all over the
levels - just as in GTA! The list goes on.

Yup. I'm considering 64 players maps off limits for now since I've yet to
find a single one that I thought was playable. Lag seems bad all around on
them. I've been sticking with 32 maps since most of those seem good. There
are some exceptions to that... but I think it's just people trying to put a
BF2 server on a machine that's too old in the tooth for it.

> 2) Server browser. This is borked. Wrong pings reported, many are at 0.
> How come servers are pinging either 0, 47 or 66, nothing in between?

fyi, the servers that are reporting pings of 0 don't have all the proper
ports open their firewall. The browser doesn't know the ping because the
server can't broadcast it through the firewall.

> Keeps freezing. Some filters are reported as not working. No known
> workable solutions.

At least the sluggishness in the demo browser seems fixed. Trying to sort
by ping in the demo was a nightmare.

Some other browser bugs:

- Sometimes ignores the words you type in trying to filter the server by
name.
- If I try and filter out Full servers, they're put into the list anyways.
- Servers show up as having open slots but when you try and connect you get
a "server is full" message. I'm talking right after I do a refresh and I
see something like 51 of 64 slots used. I get the error, do a refresh, and
the browser *still* claims only 51 of 64 used.

> 3) Crashes to desktop. No error messages. Happens for me at the end of

I've had this happen only once. Was right in the middle of the game.

Yup. Has happened to me, too, a couple times. I think I did three or four
TKs the first time before I realized what was going on.

If you right-click instead of left click, then a list come up for you to
choose what you see: Tank, APC, infantry, boat, etc.

> 5) Your HUD gets a bit busy. I can't see options to customize this?

I hate the zoom levels on the map in the corner. If I zoom out all the way,
everything is too bunched together, if I go to medium zoom, it takes me too
far in. I wish medium zoom was somewhere between what it is now and the low
zoom.

I saw that happen in the multiplayer demo a couple times, too. You look up
at the flag and see your flag. But the map and capture gauge claims it's
the enemy's. Not sure which is right.

I was playing on a 64 player server yesterday, and when someone joined
the game they somehow initiated a kick vote against another player, each
time the player being kicked was the same.

When I joined the server, a message popped up saying playerX has
initiated a mutany vote against playerY, press pg up for yes and pg down
for no.
I pressed pg down, then I saw it say that I had initiated a kick vote
for that same player.

During my time on that server, I saw about 10-15 votes for the same player.

On my install, seems to always crash-to-desktop when using right-mouse

Instead of posting bugs here where they'll get lost (because Google doesn't
archive the a.g.ea.b group), post them to the wiki.

For server bugs, post them to the technical wiki (link on the above wiki).

Why not post/search them on the official forums rather than some
obscure web forum.

The official forums is populated by a bunch of 12 year olds.

Great idea with a BF2 wiki.

If the devs don't see the bugs, how do they get fixed? Most NG readers have
some kind of web access. Use the right tool for the problem. "When all you
have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail." Let's not treat the NG
like that hammer. NG's and mailing lists are great for volatile time-
critical information. Wiki's are good for accumulating community lore.

Hey that was a good one! Nowhere else read about disabling EAX to stop the stuttering. Did the trick for me!

Try to disable antialiasing in the windows settings.

Seems like this was the reason for the chrash
(ATI card).

What about the rather daft idea of suddenly dumping you on the opposite
team ?
Ok, keep it balanced, fair enough, but why pick on folks in squads, when
there's say 5 'unassigned' players (Not in a Squad), after sorting out
our squad, setting off under orders...then bang...I'm on the other side,
why doesn't it pick a player who is NOT in a squad to switch ??? That
would make more sense !

Apart from that, it's been a lot of fun so-far !

I have experienced this twice so far. I was playing a map, and all of a
sudden I switched sides. Well, fine, I guess it was due to autobalancing.

But the problem is that friendlies show up as enemies, so I was killing
friendlies and kept saying "teamkill". That is a major FUBAR bug.

Insane memory error. When loading a map sometimes everything stops and
eventually drops back to the desktop and I get the "Insane memory
error".

Major pain in the butt, considering the time it takes to A) log in in
the first place, B) find a server that's not full and C) the amount of
time it takes to load the maps and then verify everything before you can
actually play.

Also random CTD with no error message after a round.
