Can't get stable overclock using more than stock voltage. Faulty card?

I recently purchased an MSI 7950 to replace my old 7950. Although every time I try to overclock the card using higher than it's stock voltage games will constantly freeze or I get a black screen and the game crashes. I also noticed recently that I was getting flickering textures in some games. Although I had the same problem with my other 7950.

Could the card be faulty? I'm starting to worry that the PCI 3.0 slot on my motherboard may be messed up.

There is nothing faulty about it if it works at stock, out of the box, speeds and voltage. There is no guarantee that anything will ever overclock.

Overvolting can damage a card as well.
