ATA 100 and ATA 66

hi!
i would like to know if i will gain any performance from ata 100 if i have 5400rpm drive

You'd most likely gain more from going from 5400rpm to 7200rpm than going from ATA66 to ATA100.

i sortof agree.
with the drive alone no difference will be seen, but if you have two drives on the same cable, and transfer data between them, the 66mb/sec barrier may be reached (ie 33mb/sec for each drive). unlikely, but still possible.


Excuse me for a moment. I need to drive my ergonomic wheely chair over a sheet of bubble wrap!

I disagree. There shouldn't be a "most likely" in that statement. You WILL gain more going from 5400 to 7200 than from ATA66 to ATA100.

Unless, you only work with a lot of small files under 2MB (the size of the cache) in size.
