MB does not see half the capacity of RAM module

Hi

Motherboard Intel CA810 (IBM PC 300GL 6288LKG) does not see half the capacity of 256MB SDRAM DIMM RAM module (8 x 32Mbit HYNIX HY57V840AT chips soldered on module).

what does your motherboard manual say?

if it says something like 2 slots, 256mb or 3 slots 368mb then it may only let u use a max of 128mb per slot.

or the stick could be malfunctioning. or the slot...

If it's identicle to the stock Intel motherboard, you may have better luck if you can flash it to Intel BIOS (look for a flash recovery jumper). IBM has some fussy memory requirements. It might not be a BIOS problem, but for free it's worth a try.

Well, we don't have manuals for these machines (workstations). IBM ships them only with monitor and Windows 9x/ME manuals.

No, it's not the stick. I have tested on other socket A motherboards 5 samples of a few hundred sticks that we have, and they work flawlessly.

Hi

We traced memory problem to DIMM having exactly 8 memory chips soldered. Our supplier will exchange them with memory sticks with 4 or 16 memory chips per memory module (4x512Mbit or 16x128Mbit memory chips soldered).

well it could be the ramslot then...

and one on my machine i noticed it wasnt detecting the full amount of ram either, but that was at high overclock and hard ram timings.
a small 5% VIO increase solved that problem.

my guess is its the motherboard.
poor contact or damaged ramslot
