Will I be fine with no GPU or should I invest in one?

Hi guys,

I built my computer about 3-4 months ago with IB 3770k with GTX 680 thinking I'd play lots of games. I realized GPU was too powerful for me as I hardly play any games now so I sold it to a lucky buyer about 2 weeks ago.

My machine is currently using onboard GPU (Intel 4000 HD) to drive a 2560x1440 monitor. Will I still require an external GPU? I currently use my desktop to watch streamed videos like youtube or netflix and watch HD movies at 1080p.

If you guys believe I need one, I'd like to buy one that's decent enough for occasional gaming but nothing too crazy. I'd like to stay below $250 for a GPU if I have to get one. Ofcourse, lower the price the better.

Thanks for the help in advance.

HD Graphics are good enough for just watching movies even on a 2560x1440 monitor.

What games do you want to play?

You'd need a fairly beefy GPU to play BF3 at 2560x1440. The HD4000 onboard won't really play any recent games even at lower settings. So you could stick with console for FPS, too, or you'll need to get a fairly high end GPU.

Are you willing to play at lower resolutions? (1080p) If so you could get away with a cheaper card ($180ish)

To actually play at 2560X1440 you really need a card like you listed right above.
