Need to Pick a 7970 For My New Build

Im building a new gaming PC and would like to know what the best 7970 model would be best.

My current specs are:

CPU: i5 3570k 3.4GHz
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO LGA 1155 Intel Z77
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Case: Thermaltake Chaser MK-I
PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W
HD: Western Digital WD Blue WD10EALX 1TB 7200 RPM
Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO

I was looking at a XFX Double D FX797GTDFC Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition but I read that it is not that good and XFX is a bad company. I need one from either newegg.ca or ncix.com. I was also looking at a SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7970 OC. I want to know how much of a difference is between a GHz version and normal version. Im also looking to overclock by a bit so if someone can recommend a better cooling system that is not more than $40. Im still having second thoughts about whether I should keep my 7970 or get a GTX 680. Hope you guys can help me make up my mind. I will be playing on a 24" 1980x1080 resolution but might upgrade that later on. Is my system looking good? Anything I should change? I can only order from newegg.ca or ncix.com so only pick stuff from those sites, thanks guys.

  1. What I consider the best ===> :bounce: Click me!

Another fine choice ==> :) me!
  2. The Sapphire Vapor-X is out of stock, so I cant get that. So the gigabyte 7970 is better than a GHz version?
  3. Anywhere I can buy the 3GB Vapor-X thats in stock and shippable to Canada? I really dont want to pay more for the 6GB version. Also that GTX 680 is out of stock..

Not sure let me look give me a minute or two ;)
  5. Can't find it in stock sorry
  6. Would this be good?
ASUS Radeon HD 7970 DirectCU II

I still dont understand how 7970 GHz are not better than these other versions. Shouldnt I be getting a 7970 GHz edition? Or a GTX 680?
  7. They come back in stock in a few days, just need to be on top of it.

Should I wait for it or get another one in that much time?

So a Sapphire Vapor-X is the best 7970 version? Not a GHz edition? So I should wait for it?

I would wait but only you can decide if it's worth waiting or not ;)

Would my cooling system be enough to overclock this card to 1200Mhz+?

Is this Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X Hd 7970 Ghz the same thing as SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100351VXSR Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB?
  12. Yes that is the same one and i don't know if your cooling would be enough

I really dont want to spend too much money on cooling since im not going to overclock ALOT maybe 1200MHz. So a COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO would be fine for that much overclocking? With a 750W corsair?

Wasn't sure if you were saying that you won't buy a 6GB or you would just prefer a 3GB. Thought I'd post an in-stock 6GB for the hell of it anyway.

Just hope the Vapor-x gets in stock soon. I really dont want to wait more than a week. Will it get in stock by then? And thanks YoMega but I dont want the 6GB since its a waste and thats basically in stock in a lot of places.

Why doesnt newegg just buy a bunch lol. Ive been reading that newegg gets stock in like a month. I really dont want to wait that long, does anyone know the average restock time?
  21. I think they restock every two weeks not sure though
  22. Im going to wait for a little longer but what do you suggest as the next best 7970? I only want 3GB VRAM not the 6GB ones.

Also, what would be the best GTX 680? This model?
  23. Bump
