I currently have XFX Radeon HD 5770 and want to upgrade to Sapphire 7870 2GB HDMI OC Edition. But I'm not sure whether the rest of my system will be able to keep up with the new card. Here are my system specs-

- Intel DH55TC Motherboard
- Intel Core i5 760
- Kingston 1333Mhz 4GB x 2 DDR3 RAM
- WD 1TB HDD
- Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 650W PSU

My motherboard supports PCIe 2.0 x16 bus while the 7870 is a PCIe 3.0 x16 one. Please tell if mobo or any of the parts can cause bottleneck.

Thank you all very much!

EDIT: I'm looking to play games at 1080p.

PCIe 3.0 and 2.0 doesn't really have much difference beside memory bandwidth at the moment. Unless you're going for a workstation graphics card, then 3.0 doesn't have any advantages. Since your Graphics Card is running 2GB of VRAM, it should work at about 98% or so. it's not enough for it to be directly affected by 3.0. I believe you only see drastic differences when you run across 4GB+ of VRAM.

Any reason why I should prefer 7850 over 7870? 7870 is clearly better than 7850 in terms of specs. I don't mind paying a bit extra for it. And regarding 7950, I can't afford it since it costs around $600 in India.

I'll be playing at 1080p. Mostly for Battlefield 3. And also for the new games releases like Borderlands 2, Dishonored, Witcher 2, etc. Borderlands 2 makes very good use of Physx but I don't want GTX 560 Ti just for that since 7870 is much better at almost every game than it.

Thanks, I can now go ahead with 7870 without any doubt! :D

Take a look at this article.Your bottleneck will be less than a quarter of one percent.
