I'm in the market for a new video card and I have a couple questions.

1) How does AMD's 7970 compare to Nvidia's top of the line single GPU card the GTX 680?

2) What is the difference between AMD's 7970 and 7970 GHz edition?

Ok let me just tell you right now, the 6970 and the 680 are at 2 completely different weight levels. the 680 very much out performs the 6970 very much so.. the 79070 and the 680 are about neck and neck in alot of things. if its gaming the 680 is clear winner to me, if its direct compute stuff... sadly Radeon takes the prize home for that.. but it goes like this

680 OC editions > 7970 GHZ editions > GTX 680 (for Gaming not Direct Compute)> 7970 reference> or = the GTX 670 (Most things) >7950> or = the GTX 660 TI> 7870>GTX 660>7850> 650TI>GTX 650> 7770>7750

Now thats how it goes in order to my knowledge of how performance is by studying... If that doesn't answer your question then please let me know :)

I meant AMD's top of the line single GPU the 7970 vs it's counterpart the 680. Also yes it would be for gaming only nothing else.

What games will you be playing? Because there is only a few where the 7970 shines because NVIDIA has all the technologies like PhsyX and such in Borderlands 2. Battlefield 3i have heard people maxing the game on both cards... but the 680 is what I would get just because of NVIDIA's drivers are stable.
