Ok well i got this dinosaur computer from like 2002 and I no longer have my beast (2.4Ghz Core2 quad, 4gb ddr3 1333 ram, ati radeon hd 6770) and i am really quite sad but now im stuck with this optiplex gx240. Its current specs are 1.80 Ghz Pentium 4, 512 mb of sad SDR SDRAM, and a very very sad 1998 ATI Rage 128 pro ultra. I am wanting to know if i upgrade to geforce gt 610, will my sad 133Mhz ram prevent any gaming at all.

There is no hope for that machine to play anything aside from farmville, even then it might start to lag pretty bad.

No modern graphics card will be compatible with that motherboard, the only option is to start from scratch.

That is all, sorry sir.

I have AGP and PCI i have already found a Geforce gt 610 low profile for PCI. My only concern is the very slow single data rate ram at 133 Mhz. I feel it would just not load anything in fast enough and i am just looking at what other people think keep in mind that im just trying to get modern games to play at lowest settings and resolution.

I already looked into AGP and they are just too expensive for what they are. But what do you think the outcome of this slow ram would be, the closest i have had before was a p4 system with 1gb of pc 2700 (DDR) ram 1.80Ghz p4, and an nvidia 8400 gs and that managed fallout 3 on low with like 20-40 Fps if i remember correctly, but the ddr ram was like 3 times faster than this SDR so i am not sure what to think of it.

Yeah the phone alone was worth more than the computer. But my main question about my current machine is will my slow ram cause bottleneck with any game, i do plan to get a gig in it but like i sad its old fashon SDR ram. And also i tried playing quake 3 arena and i got like one fps at any video settings and i feel like the rage 128 ultra should do better than that in a game from its time so if you know what might be causing that i would like to know, but i really want to know about the ram because im not wanting to spend $60 on a new video card just to find that the ram will just destroy everything. I did manage to boost that p4 up to 2.6ghz stable :) wasnt easy though considering its a dell.
