for FPS titles 1080p(TN panel)) imo is better than 1440p(IPS panel), because you get higher FPS(120Hz have benefits) & less input delay=less ghosting when you turnaround to shoot etc(2ms GTG vs 6ms GTG mimmum for 1440p IPS), I play Battlefield 3 with my 670 in SLI on a 120Hz monitor(ASUS VG278H) and the game play is smooth and I really enjoy it.
1080p resolution provides a good combination of image quality and performance for a demanding title like BF3. Many current mid- to high level cards out right now will excel at that resolution, but may struggle with anythng higher.
