Crashes while playing games

Last response: in Graphics & Displays

Hi,

For the past few weeks I have been seeking an answer to my delema: what the hell is wrong with my computer? Whenever I play a game (xcom:enemy unknow or civ 5) my screen goes black and the system restarts. Im assuming that it is a gpu overheat but the issue is that my temp doesn't go above 72 C. In an attempt to keep it running I have even taken the side off of the case and pointed a fan at it but still it crashes.

My Specs:

Gpu- Radeon HD 6850
CPU-intel i5-2310@2.90
RAM- 6 GB ddr3
PSU- Corsair TX750M

Please help me this has gone beyond frustrating....

... You've tried re-installing your video drivers, right?

You've tried exiting and restarting steam?

Verifying the integrity of the games' cashes?

Uninstalling and re-downloading?

What I'm trying to say is that this is a software issue somewhere, not a hardware issue.

Yeah I have done all of those and now its even starting to shut down during regular use.

Im going to try reinstalling windows 7 to see if makes a difference

it can be three point of failure. a bad stick of ram that has a bad bit. the power supply under hard load is not holding the system up. the mb has a volatge reg issue that not holding the mb on under load or heat. if you have another power supply or can poick up a spare i would try the power supply first.
