Upgrade parts

Hi Guys,

I am looking to upgrade parts in my desktop I built several years ago. It will be a moderate upgrade.

Current:
AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core
ASUS M4N68T-M V2 (crappy replacement mobo I got when my original failed)
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
HIS H465FS512P Radeon HD 4650 512MB

Prospective:

ASRock 970 EXTREME3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157280

or

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514

----------

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727

or

AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz Socket AM3+ 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103962

-----------

I already have G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 but it didn't work in my current build, something about my cpu memory controller or something. I can use it with new stuff.

Not sure if I want to upgrade video card. If I do, it would be $100 max. Something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121442

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

More about upgrade parts
  1. The 965 is pretty good. I wouldn't go for the new FX.
  2. The fx 6300 is $29 more than the 6100 and 10% faster well worth it.
  3. Definitely, I meant to say newer FX I guess. Piledriver is the better answer.
  4. What about the motherboard?
  5. The Gigabyte seems expensive. See if you can get an Extreme4 ASRock.

What is the difference between extreme3 and extreme4? I will keep an eye on both.
  7. Well, there probably isnt that much of a difference but a few features.

So, in a sense, go for the Extreme3.
