hey guys i have a radeon 6770 1gb gddr5 graphics card and i was wondering what i should upgrade it to?

here are my other specs:

core i3 2120 @ 3.4 Ghz
4gb ddr3
Asus p8h61 - Mle usb3

i do alot of gaming at 1280 x 1024 and was wondering what i could upgrade to get even better performance.
obviously i dont want to be bottle necked by my i3.
i am also kinda leaning towards the nvidia side of things.

Optional: im also looking for an upgrade to my cpu. i do have a low budget of around £200

For $200 total you're not going to be able to get meaningful upgrades on both the CPU and GPU.

I'd just upgrade one or the other... nothing above a GTX 660 for that resolution, I think.

A 2500k/3570k + GTX 660 would last a long time at that resolution.

if was to buy a 3570k would i be able to use it in my motherboard?

I'd say your rig is well balanced as it stands.
What sort of games are you playing? Games like Shogun need more CPU horsepower while fast paced racing games or shooters usually benefit from a fast graphics card.

um im playing games such as planetside 2 (beta i know it has bad performance issues) mainly shooters, but i do play skyrim, and guildwars 2 im just finding that the performance isnt as good as i want it to be

Well GW2 might need more GPU power but Skyrim is probably CPU-bound on your rig.

As I said earlier, your rig seems fairly well balanced, you should be seeing good framerates across all games so where is the performance poor?

well just in newer games my framerate seems to have dropped and things arnt running as smooth. i just want to go back to smooth framerates without having to sacrifice quality

The 6770 is not a powerful GPU and will not play demanding games like Battlefield 3 smoothly even at that resolution.

alright then what would run battlefield 3 smoothly? like a GTX 650?

650ti minimum if you're talking about ultra.

There's a lot of choice for £200 or less with the 650Ti coming in well under £150 and although it's in sort supply here in good old Bighty at the moment it is available.
If you push the budget fully the 7870 can fall into your price range although I'd suggest you save a few beer vouchers and look at the HD7850 instead.
Two other points : Please provide us with exact deails of the systems powersupply, it may be fine for the juice sipping 6770 but may struggle with a higher end card. Also, that little i3 will overclock pretty well and although a better cooler will be needed something like the Coolermaster Hyper 212 will do just fine (it does the job on my mildly overclocked i5 750) for about £30.

Core i3 CPUs don't really overclock...

Oh but if they could....

OK I'm done dreaming now. I run with an i3-2100 and OC'ed 6850. Upgrade your GPU first, then worry about Motherboard and CPU (i5-2500k & Z77). I run Skyrim on High @ 1920x1080 without dropping below 60FPS with my setup. I jump to Ultra and I can drop down to the high 40's if there's a lot going on.

my power supply is a cheap novatech 500w 80 plus modular.
