I currently own a Sapphire HD 6870 and I am starting to realize how convenient Nvidia drivers are. What can you say? Is Nvidia generally better than AMD? Thanks guys!

Solution

at different price points, its debatable. but its generally accepted that AMD controls all of the sub 200$ price points almost. all sub 100$ is essentially amd(6670 ddr3, 7750 ddr5) and the 100-200 is populated with generally:
(7770(alternatively, 6850), 7850 1gb, 7850 2gb) for that price point which they perform as expected for their prices. past that, its debatable depending on absolute settings and game set.

I really don't understand why you'd say that.I've used ATi/AMD cards for 5 years now and i've had a driver issue in only one game.
Are you having driver issues or something?Because Nvidia generally have got better multi card drivers but AMD usually has the lead in single card drivers.
So no right now i'd say they're on par.

I've built systems with both amd and nvidia components and I can tell you once you get the parts and drivers installed correctly the games look and function exactly the same. I've seen slightly better configuration options out of nvidia, but they've had their share of glitches. I just go after the cards with good performance/dollar.

So given an HD 6850 and a GTX 550 ti for example, what would you choose?

Generally below $180 I agree with you, above that data on the difference between a 7850 and a gtx 560 ti isn't something I've seen myself to judge and the 660/660 ti have wildly variable performance because of the bandwidth restrictions
