Hello Toms community,

I plan to buy a 7850, and don't know what power supply I should buy.
I want some thing that can power my system now, and when I upgrade to a i5 3750k later
*must be modular
I've heard mixed reviews, that you should buy a low power one from a reliable brand, but others disagree

system specs now
AMD 4100 FX
GT 520
1 TB HDD
DVD Drive
Mini ATX board [plan to upgrade with cpu]
8gb of ram

Also, I see some cards with a weird shroud-design, but i don't know if it's bad, and that's why it's cheap,http://www.amazon.com/VisionTek-Radeon-Express-Graphics-900505/dp/B007KJ1URG/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1OIBDPCV1N2IS&coliid=I10K04JWAK3BMD , vs an open-air one,

Thanks in advance

Buy the highest wattage QUALITY PSU you can afford. I just bought a Seasonic 1050 and love it. Running a small PSU at or near capacity is like running your car in first gear all the time. It will lead to premature failure. Posters are always asking how to "future proof" their new computers. A PSU is one of the few items you can use multiple times provided it's big enough.

whats your budget?? but i would recommend you any decent psu of at least 600 watt..
corsair makes very decent psus.. i would recommend CORSAIR TX 650 watt....best for its price range...look at this
same model but modular one,you have to pay 20 $ extra..

Decent 520-550 watt psu will run your system flawlessly..

take it from known branded psu like seasonic, superflowe, tagan or others..

Seasonic 520W M12II-520 80 Plus Bronze will be enough to feed your system.
or
Super Flower SF-550P14PE Golden King (Platinum) if you wanna something more powerfull and efficient..

both of psu above is modular.

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

Radeon HD 7850 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit as minimum and 650 Watt if you go with two cards in Crossfire mode.

If you are going to overclock the GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina. Source: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_radeon_hd_7850_power_edition_oc_review,6.html I recommend PSU:Rosewill CAPSTONE Series CAPSTONE-550 550W Continuous @ 50°C, 80 PLUS GOLD Certified, Single +12V Rail, ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92, SLI Ready, CrossFire Ready, Active - PFC Power Supply

I can't express enough how thankful I am!
So about my shroud question lol, is it bad? will in put a negative impactt on my airflow?

Hi openfire - The Antec PSU bigcyco1 linked is currently $45 + $2 shipping, seems like a good deal.
