Hi guys, long time reader on the forums, new asker.

Okay, so recently I built a new system; specs below:

i7 3770K 3.5GHz
ASRock Extreme 4 Z77
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
MSI Lightning HD 7970 (Core clock: 1070MHz. Memory clock: 1400MHz)
16GB 1600MHz dual-channel
750W PSU

On the lowest settings on BF3 (I always play on lowest settings for multiplayer games), I get around 70fps. I've seen people with un-overclocked 7970s getting that on ultra. Also, TotalBiscuit the YouTuber said in his WTF is Max Payne 3 video he gets around 250fps on a single 680 with all the settings maxed out apart from some MSAA turned down. Max Payne 3 for me not even maxed out gets me around 25fps. Most things on ultra but with FXAA and ambient occlusion off. Is a 680 really that much better than a 7970? Why am I getting this performance when other people with the same or similar specs are getting much better framerates; what am I doing wrong?

Some things I've tried:
I enabled and disables hyperthreading, no difference.
Overclocked my CPU, no difference.
Overclocked my CPU, no difference.
I have now reset my CPU and GPU to normal, and enabled hyperthreading again.

Please help.
Thanks in advance,

Flutter

Oh I didn't go to his video to find out about his framerate, he mentioned it in the video which alerted me to the problem. BF3 on ultra I get around 30-40 which isn't satisfactory for me. My driver installation should be clean, how can I remove everything and install them all again?

I got 40 FPS with everything on ultra and no anti aliasing. Try turning shadows to medium, turning off ambient occlusion, and turning anti aliasing to 2X(not 4 or 8). Those things make virtually no visual difference yet consume soooo much graphics processing power.

EDIT: I have 6870 overclocked, 1100T CPU.

i know both games favors nvidia cards more but having 250 fps in max payne 3 with max setting sounds fake though. it is more reliable to see official test that was done by tech sites.

try to match all the setting and resolution (including cpu oc if possible) and compare the frame rates.

Have done this, now I get like 110fps. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks to everyone else too for the help :)
