Asus Gtx 670 sli geforce9800gt

I just bought a Asus gtx670 2gb (not the top edition) and was wondering if I should sli it with my old 9800gt for physx. Also is it worth the extra 100 mula for the top edition?
One more question. Am I using PCI express 3 with the CPU I'm using?
My system:
Asus rampage extreme extended mobo :bounce:
Intel 3820
16gb dominator gt :pt1cable:
Corsair h100 liquid cooled
Sandisk 120 extreme ssd
7 fans for cooling :()
810 watt psu

  1. i think a single gtx670 alone are fine to handle game rendering and physx processing at the same time. try using gtx670 alone with physx first and see the performance impact. as long as you can get around 60 fps there is no need to add dedicated physx card unless you were using 120hz dispaly and want your frame rates to match or exceed your refresh rate.

about the pci-e stuff the answer is yes but the mobo also must able to support pci-e 3.0

It most certainly is okay I don't have the exact same card as you BUT I will post the benchmark I have with arkham city with physx on high. You will see you are just fine with 670 doing everything.
    Here is my setup
    Intel Core i5 2500k
    Asrock Z68 EXTREME4 Gen 3
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 2GB OC
    Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 8GB (2x4)
Samsung 830 256GB SATA III SSD
Seagate Barracuda 500 GB SATA II
LG 12x Super Multi Blue WH12LS38
    CM Storm Sniper
    Corsair AX850 PSU
    Corsair Hydro H100

  3. ^ nice.
I added a PhysX card to my 680 only because I had it sitting around not in use.
also I hate to have a ATX motherboard with all these slots and not have anything in them..
  4. A couple more questions if you guys don't mind. Before I installed the 670 I had the 9800gt and was able to overclock the CPU from 3.6 to 4.3 and even 4.7 at stable speeds but as soon as i put the 670 the sata reverted to gen 2 from 3 and the boot sequence would change to my external drive with the label UEFI and it has become unstable and no longer able to overclock the CPU (only at turbo speed 3.8). By the way I'm using the preset profiles on the mobo.
    I would appreciate your help
  5. Yea I would take a look into what your motherboards settings are at. That sounds a little odd. I would even check your motherboard manual just to be sure that you are in fact connecting into a SATA III 6mbps port.

And with your cpu is it a k sku?
  6. I build the system myself so I know I'm using a sata3 port. I think if I remove the 9800gt it might stop cause I'm using a pciE 2 with a 3. I'm wondering why the mobo is seeing my western digital external usb2 as UEFI ?
Il try tonight if I have time otherwise tomorrow:(
Il let you guys know. Thanks a million!
