HD not reconized after complete wipe to do reinstall

I know its old but I have a German made Sarasota Laptop that I wiped the HD to reinstall Win2000. Now when I do a restart booting from the installation CD it will not recognize it but will if I use Puppy Linux. Any thoughts? Please do not say the usual like get a new laptop. I have Win7 just a project for someone.

Are you trying to install Windows 7 (comes on a DVD) or Windows 2000 (comes on a CD)? The old system may only have a CD drive and can't read DVDs.

Please clarify.

I am trying to reinstall Windows 2000 with the factory installation CD that thankfully the owner had the common since to save.

Try burning a new copy of the Win 2000 CD on another computer. Use the slowest possible burn speed.

I just tried making a duplicate and still does not work. Thanks for the suggestion.

This really indicates an issue with the install media since you can boot a Puppy Linux CD. Are you sure the install CD is not just the drivers CD that was provided by vendors back in that era? It is possible that the CD you have has no bootable W2K stuff on it.
