HP DV6 Drivers Wont Update

I have an HP DV6, with a Radeon HD 6770m graphics card. When I try to update from the default drivers to the official amd, it installed ( it installed very quickly) , the progress bar says its complete, but after i restart the computer, the only sign of it is the .exe i downloaded to install the driver. My device manager says the driver date was 5/7/11 and when I look at blacklight retribution it tells me my drivers haven't been updated in 17 months. I have been looking at different benchmark sites, and no games have been running nearly as well as they should. I have an Intel(R) Core (TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.2GHZ quad core. Please help me out!

Okay, I've made a little more progress. When I finally open catalyst, it tells me " Amd Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer
The version of your graphics adapter is not supported.
Please contact your notebook manufacturer for a graphics driver update.
