Hi,

I've got a Gitzo 2202 Explorer and I absolutely love it! It's my first
tripod and I use for portrait, macro (which I do a lot of), and
panorama.

I skimped up front and went with the aluminum configuration. Now I want
a carbon fiber set. But before I commit I was hoping to get your
opinion of what you consider the best tripod. I hope to buy this second
tripod and have it last me for life.

What should I get? For those who favor specifics, I would consider
spending as much money as it would take to score the Gitzo 1227LVL.

Thanks for your insight and help in this decision. I got started late
in life with photography ;-). Your opinions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks again!

If you decide to get a long heavy lens, that will need an extremely
sturdy tripod. I don't know the models, Roger N. Clark probably says on
his web site what he has needed for a heavy lens.

Your on the right track if you are looking for a tripod to last the rest of
your life. Depending on the heaviest lens you plan on using now, or in the
future, you might even consider the next size up from the 1227 in Gitzo's
carbon fiber line. Also, don't forget a good ball head for that tripod!
