Randomly Im getting black screen crashes during gameplay even for games like team fortress 2 etc.

Its like my PC went to sleep mode and not wake up. (I also have a sleep issue with my 7970 where I cant wake it up after it being on a certain time so I set the display to never off)

Its totally random so I have no idea if its a specific game or not.

My specs

Phenom II x4 850 @3.96GHz
Sapphire 7970 OC 3gb Card
8GB Ripjaws 1600MHz
Thermaltake TR2 600w PSU
MSI 870a-g54 mobo
60 GB OZC agility 3 ssd
500 GB Seagate HDD

I'm thinking its either the PSU or the Catalyst driver because everytime I delete my old driver and try reinstalling it it gives me a installion complete with possible or some errors occured I forget what it says and it shows me a link to view the list and I see no errors so I have no idea.

Any help would be great thanks..

Thermaltake isnt known for making very good psus. That may very well be your issue, especially if its under heavy load. I usually recommend Seasonic psu and a modular unit in 620w would suit your build. You are right though, it could be a driver issue. Have you used software to completely remove the old driver? Here is a link: http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2012/4/4/guide-how-to-completely-uninstall-amd-graphics-drivers.aspx You may want to try that and then reinstall a couple of different versions of Catalyst to see which is the most stable for your gpu.

I tried 12.6 and 12.4 still crashing and I think more than usual....

I found my problem!

I didn't know my psu had a 6+2pin connector, so I disconnected the 8pin to molex connector and swapped it in and worked like a charm! Its weird because it never did this for the months that I had this card, my guess is that the connector got screwed up or something.

I then ran into more problems when I closed my case though. Both the back and front wouldn't go on without much force, causing the connectors to loosen a little and crash during gameplay. I had to bend a small part of my case from the back near the mobo tray so the wires wouldn't interfere with the clearance from the messy cables hiding behind the case. The front I had to bend the mesh coated 6pin connectors to get them to fit without moving the connector when I slid my front panel back on.

All in all everything is now perfect and I ran several benchmarks to confirm that it works.

Thanks for your suggestions though :)
