Dell Inspiron 1764 Graphics Problem | Please Help!!

October 19, 2012 7:02:22 PM

Greetings One and All,

I'm having some difficulties with a repair and would like to throw it to the vultures to see if there's anything more I can do.

The situation is this....

My client bought a water damaged / broken laptop (Dell Inspiron 1764) off eBay and has asked me to fix it up for him.

The laptop was bought with the following spec:

Intel Core i3 CPU
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium COA

The screen was clearly cracked and the laptop had suffered some major water damage to the motherboard.

So far I've replaced:

Screen
Keyboard
Motherboard
Power Supply
Hard Drive
CPU Heatsink
CPU Fan

All the above are brand new components

The laptop now works fine and is currently running at a pretty poor 1024 x 768 screen resolution.

I've installed all the required drivers in sequential order and have updated Windows 7 with its 121 or so updates.

After the laptop reboots it gets just past the starting windows screen and goes into a reboot loop

I assume it has something to do with the graphics but I'm no expert in that field.

Sometimes it gets to the applying update 1 of X screen before it cuts out and sometimes it cuts out straight after the Starting Windows screen.

Any one have any ideas?

Regards

Tony
