For gaming a 965 BE would be cheaper alternative, and better than a fx.

a lot of people will say to stick with the phenom II's, however they are becoming a legacy piece of hardware. The FX series isn't as horrible as some would like to think, although they are not as fast at single threaded applications. Where FX really shines is in multi-threaded applications, I can attest to a drastic performance upgrade on BF3 when I went from my Phenom II 945 to my Current CPU an FX-8120 specifically in multiplayer. Also if you do any video editing/rendering you will want those extra cores as they do seem to help considerably. At the end of the day you're going to want to do some research and base you're decision on what you want and expect from your computer.
