CustomPC for high end 3D rendering

Hello,

I want to build a custom PC for 3D rendering (3d modeling, MOSTLY 3D texture/shading, and rendering). If anyone is familiar with the following software packages, you will know what I need!

Software:
Maya
Mari
Nuke
Mudbox/Zbrush

I was looking in to the new hex-core processors (i7s, no xeons, cant afford them). Was hoping to get as much ram as possible, minimun 24gb. And YES, I can guarantee you I will use every last KB when it comes to mudbox/zbrush/rendering. I have not been keeping up with the latest processors, mobos, gpus, etc. I am doing my own research, but wanted opinions from this trusted community! Please let me know what you think is worth getting. Lets say my budget is $3,000.
