Good 50x(ish) Cd Rom drive?

I cannot find Kenwood Cd-roms anywhere so im going to have to go with another company. I've been looking at Acer 56x, creative 52x, etc. I just need a good, 50xish, fast cd rom. I almost don't care about the sound,'cept if it sounds like a Mach 3 jet. Anybody have any recommendations? Thanks.

Creatives break easily, and I think it's more like mach 4 I'd go for a sony 52x- I have one, and it's very very silent, but considerably faster than my previous 52x for some weird reason.

my friend has also had a few Asus rom's go bye-bye on him, so may want to stay away from those.
surprisingly the cheaper Affrey drives hold up fairly well, according to him. (he's a hardware tech)

Wow, thanks for the info about creative! i was actually considering buying one, but i was remembereing the other day that their stuff is way to overpriced. I didn' tknow they were very prone to break or wear down. Whats the max speed of the afreey by the way? Also thanks all for the info.

It might be faster down in the States, but up in the north here, I only find 52x Afreey CD ROMs.
As a side note, I did have one Creative drive (52x) fail on me. Never bought another Creative CDROM ever again.

i'm up north too, or at least in canada. and yes, they only come 52x as far as i know, but that's way more than enough. it's no longer about how fast, but about the features and formats.

Hey, I'm Canadian too!! Anyway, IMHO, any variable speed high RPM CD-ROM over 40X is LOUD and won't give you much better performance.

AMD technology + Intel technology = Intel/AMD Pentathlon IV; the <b>ULTIMATE</b> PC processor
