Amd or nvidia

so i am trying to pick my parts for a build (my first) and i think i am gonna go with the i5 2500k or the i5 3570k not sure yet but my question is what is the better if there is one card AMD or nvidia and what should i get for my build i think i can spend around 170.00 im on a budget im not gonna be hard core gaming but i will be gaming some so what do u think i should go with amd or nvidia and can you recommend one like i said around 170.00 oh and if you have any thoughts on the cpu and what one i should go with out of the two i have chosen please let me know thanks if you think i can save any money somewhere let me know im trying to keep it under 500.00 any parts recommendations would be helpful
