USB or PS2 for Mouse Input?

Just a quick, simple (possibly silly) question. Is there any difference with hooking up an Intellimouse explorer optical to USB or PS2. Since it can do either one. Im an avid gamer and want to know if there is a preference of one over the other. Im sure it works very well both ways, but which way is better for any reason or is it the same?

My brother has the 2x optical logitech mouse and he hooks it up to the usb. When it was hooked up to the ps2 the mouse stayed on (optical light) even when his computer was off.

I think that the mouse should be more responsive when plugged in by USB - as per a fellow poster's comment.

My Intellimouse explorer have the same problem. The optical light stays on even when the computer was off when I use it with PS2 port.

Mine did to till I changed the jumper on the motherboard. Some motherboards you just have to change the setting in BIOS in the power up menu under usb/mouse settings.

Anytime you have a choice, USB is the way to go. It's a faster bus so it should theoretically allow for better response times from the mouse.

I'm using a Logitech cordless Trackman, and if I use USB instead of PS2, the pointer skips.

I don't want an Intel Inside! (all those sharp corners and pins)

I use the PS/2 port with my Logitech Optical mouse because my backup program runs in DOS, and there is no such thing as a USB DOS mouse driver. The backup program (Drive Image 5) is impossible to use in DOS with some kind of pointer.

The Sample Rate with the mouse is only 100 (60 default), versus 125 with the USB port ... but I can't tell any difference in the tracking. The optical mouse just isn't as good as a ball mouse in that respect. However, that might change, if I can ever purchase a cordless, dual-optical mouse. I expect to see one from Logitech in a few months or so. The regular "wired" dual-optical is already available.
