Issues with installing new graphics card in acer aspire x3200

heya all,
My father wanted to install a new graphics card into his aspire x3200(slimline pc). Now we looked online and find a low profile hd 6450 which has a hdmi cable so he can connect it to the TV to watch 40d, bbci player.. etc and to the monitor. unfortunately the monitor is quite old and only has a VGA output. Could i use an adaptor on the DVI input?

well sadly that isnt the main problem.
The main problem is I cant get the computer to transmit sound through the hdmi cable only visual output to the TV. I looked under control panel and sound but under outputs it only lists the jack and the hdmi output on the motherboard(onboard graphics) so I tried to install the latest drivers for the card and the computer crashed and gave me the blue screen of death :(  . It says its a bad driver! it tells me that its had a problem installing a new driver for new hardware and i should look in the BIOS to disable some memory thing and shadowing, however there are no such options i nthe BIOS.
Also the graphics card on idle is producing a LOT of heat, the cpu stays around 44c (checked in the bios) but from the feel of the graphics card its double that! what is going on??? something is wrong with the graphics card or has some files in windows gone corrupt???
