Looking for any help I can get as a first time builder...

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: Week after Xmas/Early Jan 2013

Budget Range: Trying to keep it in the $700-$800 range

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, watch my placeshifted Directv @ work, web surfing

Are you buying a monitor: No, going to use HDMI to a TV

Parts to Upgrade: Brand new build replacing my laptop. I have a mouse/keyboard and monitor

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, Windows 7 64bit preferred

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: No Preference. I've researched Newegg, Tiger Direct and Newegg. Only 1hr away from a Microcenter too.

Location: South Central PA, 1 hr north of Baltimore, 2 1/2 hrs from Philly

Parts Preferences: Looking at AMD Phenom II x4 965 for cost reasons, open to intel i5 3570 as well or anything else I may have missed

Overclocking: No
SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: Portability is key. I will be taking my machine to and from work regularly. I work year round at a seasonal business so I have plenty of time to kill at work most of the year.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Laptop is about 4 years old is unable to run Planetside 2. I also play EVE Online, but I have a PS3 for most of my gaming needs.

This is what I have come up with so far, let me know if you think it will fit in the case and any components that should be added/exchanged:

Case: Thermaltake LANBOX Lite VF6000BWS $90
Processor: AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition $100
Mobo: ASRock 880GM-LE $60
Hard Drive: Western Digital Blue 7200 RPM SATA 3.0 3.5" $65
Memory:CORSAIR Vengeance 8 GB (2x4GB) 240-pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) $42
PSU:XFX Core Edition PRO550W ATX 12V 2.2 ESP12V 2.91 80 PLUS Bronze $70
GPU:Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0x16 HDPC Ready $230
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO $35
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit $100

Total: $792

Pretty damn good. However I think there are cheaper small cases out there. Look them up because sometimes the total volume of a tower is less than those box-shaped cases.

- That phenom is $85 on amazon. But seriously consider a cheaper case so you can get a $170 i5.
-You can get windows 7 for $80 on ebay
-Here is a 5/5 7870 GHz for $210: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161411

This is the type of build I was getting at. Just use the $215 GPU and $80 windows I listed and it will be within budget.
