I bought a Nokia 6630 from T-Mobile last week., lovely phone, gorgeous.
Wondrous in its quality and build, so many good things about it that I
couldn't possibly list them all here. Apart from the firmware that is..
After a week of happily responding to texts and calls, I pressed two buttons
a little too fast and suddenly it rebooted. I thought, "ah, perhaps just a
bug, will be fine when it reboots."
Nope, on rebooting, accessing menus is possible, but on accessing any of the
items in a menu, it reboots. On pressing any of the number keys, it reboots.
So I called up T-Mobile, who proceeded to tell me it was my sim card, as
well as buggy firmware that may have caused the fault. My simcard is seven
years old, apparently it runs at a higher voltage that the new ones. So, on
Monday I get a replacement 6630 and replacement sim card running at the new
voltage, lower I think, 3v. For those who are looking to upgrade, be wary if
you have an old sim perhaps.
Would be interested to know if other people have had similar problems.
I really dont want to drop this phone and move to something else, it's such
a great piece of kit, I just wish the firmware wasn't so sensitive.

Cookie,
First of all, sorry to hear about your phone. I hope the replacement sim
fixed it.
I also got the 6630 while I was in Asia last month. Luckily, I haven't had
any problem with it, with my 5 yr old sim card --- knock on wood. What I
found out while trying to find a larger capacity rs-mmc in asia was that
this phones only takes 1.8V memory cards.
Maybe you could check what version of firmware that is on your phone, hit
*#0000#. Mine is V.2.39.15, dated 11/11/2004. Although I've got no problem
with it, I probably should have flashed it before returning to the US, if
only I had the time, now I'm not sure where I can go to get it flashed. I
don't think there is a Nokia Care Center in the NY area, is there?

Thanks for the information fppringo,
ironically I used to live in Mamaroneck, and I didn't see one there. Depends
on how far you're willing to travel though I guess. Will check the firmware
date when I get the replacement on Monday.
