Buying a new cpu

Ok, I am planning on buying a new CPU and i have planned to go with intel ivy bridge arch. So please suggest a motherboard and processor combination so that budget is within 230 $(pref i5 3xxx series) . Also, if not possible second generation suggestion welcome but really need to be powerful. Do not bother with i3 second gen (third gen is okay).

What is the primary use of this computer?

Gaming in moderate or even low setting , main condition : Need to stay long and I am a cse student so compiling and editing etc...(Gaming in low setting is enough, but it should play all games )
