I've been assistant editing professionally for several years on Avid and need a computer to run CS6 for freelance editing from home. I'm going to use the machine for Adobe CS6 Creative Cloud. I will be using Premiere Pro and After Effects the most. I will also be using Photoshop & Illustrator and teaching myself color correction with SpeedGrade. I tend to work with several programs running at the same time, so multitasking is very important.
I've read the Adobe Hardware Performance Whitepaper:
(http://adobe.ly/REkAlm) and the prebuilt recommendation is a HP Z820 and it seems overpriced for what I want. $3,767.00 BASE Model!
My budget is $1800-$2000 not including monitors. I have speakers.
GPU: NVIDIA QUADRO 4000
RAM: 32GB RAM
( I think the GPU is non-negotiable, I just want the CPU and RAM to match it's potential. Is the CPU or RAM overkill?)
Price is the most important factor for the rest of the build. My reasoning is that I can take advantage of the new CS6 features (64 bit, CUDA) spending less than the base prebuilt machine they recommended. I've never built a computer before and this is a daunting task, but I'm good at building other things so I'm feeling confident that I can do this... with YOUR help.
I'd like to have my OS and programs on a SSD to improve speed. I'd like to have two mechanical hard drives (10,000 rpm) for data. I'd welcome advice on how to partition them for a video editors needs and possible configure a RAID 0.
I want a case that will be intuitive enough for a newbie like me to work with. I don't require anything fancy, but don't want to sacrifice quality because I'm cheap. Tool-less is better. If I could just slide and click things in place it would probably be the best.
Blue Ray DVD Writer
Professional Media Card Reader (SxS, CF, P2)
I've selected the components I think I'll need. The goal is the perfect mix of performance and economy. I also need recommendations for PSU and feedback on everything.
