Mobo: ASRock Z68, Extreme 4, Gen 3
CPU: i5-2500k (stock speeds currently)
RAM: 8GB corsair vengeance
SSD: Samsung 830 256 GB (Windows 7 and programs)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue, 320 GB (data drive)
So here is my problem. I just got the SSD, installed W7 and programs on intel SATA 3 port, AHCI mode - no problems.
When I plug in my HDD for a data drive into the intel ports, it is recognized in the BIOS, and in Intel Rapid Storage Technology, but not in Windows explorer. Also, it is not in the device manager in disk drives, nor is it in the disk manager just waiting to be formatted or allocated.
What I CAN do, is plug it into the Marvell ports which are set to IDE (the mobo sets all Marvell ports and all Intel ports the same - so I can have all Marvell IDE or AHCI and the same with intel, but no mixing to have an AHCI intel AND an IDE intel sata port). When I do that, it shows up in windows just fine - can format, set up, do anything. However, even if I do a full format and leave it all unallocated space (seen in the disk manager at this point, NOT in windows explorer) and then plug it into AHCI intel sata ports during a reboot, it disappears from windows again (except intel rapid storage technology and the BIOS - no problems showing anywhere).
There are NO problems with my system - ram tests and HD Tune all showed up perfect.
How do I get this to work in AHCI mode - I know the speed will be the same, just looking for the side benefits. Also, it SHOULD work so why isn't it.
