How can I get the best surround sound ?

I have a gforce EVGA 560 TI and mobo asrock P67 Extreme 4 Gen 3
I want to get the best sound out of it

right now I have connected a optcal cable from my mobo to my amp
onkyo 7.1
But I when I hear a dts test online, I cannot hear my rear speakers
For instance youtube.com/watch?v=-TdLTe_yckY&feature=related
but if I play any digital disc like blu ray, I can get the correct sound n each speaker.

So what do you recommend me?
connect my amp to my mobo or to my gpu, I think I get sound throu any of those

Connect the GPU(Audio Pass-through) to the AMP via HDMI; optical won't do 7.1.

Optical only does 2 channels (encoded to 5.1) so it is impossible to do 7.1 through optical. For best sound output use HDMI pass through to an amp, or use all analog cables to analog input on the amp from your soundcard

so I can get both sound and video throu the mini hdmi of my gpu ?
Right now I m using a mini hdmi to hdmi cord to my tv for vid only.

you think it will work ilike this, from my Gpu mini hdmi port to my amp and another hdmi cable from my amp to my tv, to get both vid and sound 7.1?

Yeah that's the best idea. I'm on an nvidia card though and I can't do audio pass through- right now my amp is mimicking being a second monitor.

Are you getting surround sound, 5.1 or 7.1,
from gpu to amp ? what card do u have?

I'm running a gtx 560 ti to my pioneer vsx-521k amp. It only does 5.1, but if you have a 7.1 amp and any modern nvidia card you should be able to send the amp a 7.1 signal.

I got the cable and everything is set up for surround now.
But I cannot get surround from Internet only, anyone Knows ?

Audio from youtube is in stereo. You have to put your amp in Dolby Pro Logic II mode to hear a fake surround mode.
