my screen is going totally black when i remove the vga cable that connects to the TV, i have tries changing the settings to the laptop only and also the screen resolution but still its not working what can i do

When using the TV are you displaying the picture on the laptop Screen and the TV at the same time or just the TV? If you are showing on just the TV you need to change it over to the internal display before you disconnect that should take care of the problem. Yes it should auto detect but some do not do that correctly.
