Your question

$300-$400 MOBO/CASE/STORAGE

December 17, 2012 3:45:53 AM

Hello I am a newbie but I have done extensive research. I just want any suggestions and ideas on what parts to choose.

Approximate Purchase Date: Over time because I want to get the most "bang for my buck". I would be buying a little at a time every couple weeks.
I would like to save as much money as possible.

Budget Range:$500-600(NOT INCLUDING KEYBOARD, REMOTE AND MOUSE) total after shipping and/or Rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important:
1) Store movies and tv shows and watch on my 1080p tv
2) use as a cable box alternative, with the use of a cable card i would like to use it as a DVR (watch, pause, and rewind live TV)
3) stream netflix, hulu, amazon prime through this.
4) watch and play bluray disks
5) web browsing, wifi, medium gaming and playing music.

Are you buying a monitor: No I want to use my TV through HDMI cable.

Parts to Upgrade: I want to Homebuild so there are no parts to upgrade.

Do you need to buy OS: No. I was thinking of using Linux Ubuntu

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com but if you know of another trusted site with a better option I'm open to the suggestion.

Location: Bloomfield, NJ, US - we need to know where these parts are being assembled and whether there are good store-only deals available

Overclocking: No preference

SLI or Crossfire: still don't know what that means ??

Your Monitor Resolution: I'm using my HDTV 1080p
Additional Comments: I would like a quiet PC and a not so bulky case, as I would want it to blend in with my Home Theatre System.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I am not upgrading. I want to cancel my cable subscription and this is the best way for me.

I also want to use it as a server but if its better I would want to build two additional non-expensive HTPCs for my bedrooms mainly for web browsing, music, streaming movies and as a cable box alternative. (FYI) The tvs in my bedrooms aren't Flat Screen HDTVs so they cannot connect via HDMI cables.
