Anyone near enough to make a trip to Amoeba Records in Hollywood should do so.
Not only do they have a *massive* stock of CDs, LPs, and DVDs (all avalaible
new and used) they have a huge selection of LDs upstairs. I was browsing and
found Criterion copies of several movies, including Brazil and Robert Altman's
The Player. They even had the kick-ass Night Before Christmas boxset! There's
all kinds of stuff laced in there, I hardly had time to look and I still found
some good stuff.

While they have a good selection of used laserdiscs and occasionally
surprise bargains can be found ($9.95 CAV Criterion Blade Runner) once
in a blue moon, their selection is about 20% of what it was only a year
ago. Most of what they have now is pretty much junk compared to any
individual title's dvd release (say "Clockwork Orange" ld vs. dvd).

Also, they have outrageous pricing on true "collectables" like Disney
OOP dvds often ranging 200 bucks for a title easily found on eBay for 60
bucks.

True enough. But it's the largest selection of LDs I've seen anywhere in
several years. If you know of anywhere in West Los Angeles or the San Fernando
Valley with a better selection, let me know.

Well they obviously aren't getting new discs anymore and what they can have
avaliable is limited to what gets brought in used and sold to them. EBay is
probably the best place to find LD titles, but they have a good number of them
at Amoeba and buying through them means no shipping charges and no worrying
over a cheat-seller or getting a damaged disc.

I noticed they had a copy of the Criterion Edition "This is Spinal Tap" DVD
marked for $150. The average price on EBay is $50-70. Funny thing is that the
LD version seems to sell for around $30.
