rambus compatability question

I am using PC600 Rambus in my System and I was wondering if I could toss in some PC800 memory and have no problems. I am not familiar with Rambus's system whatsoever. If I want to upgrade some of the memory can I do that or do I have to upgrade it all. I also wanted to know if different size memory could be used in the same system (ie 256 and 512 sticks). Thanks in advance.

You ccan do that but all of the memory will run at PC600 speed. Since RDRAM is serial all of it has to run at the same speed. So it uses the lowest common denominator, PC600. So if you are going to upgrade do it all at PC800 and sell the PC600 to someone else.

Bum got it in one. Hehe.

Extra info:

You can use different sized modules, but they have to be in matched pairs. So you could have two 256MB modules and two 512MB modules. Or four 256MB modules ... or four 512MB modules. But not two of one, and just one of the other. You can't install (yet another example) two 128MB modules and one 256MB module. You get the picture.
