Windows 7 wont detect 9800gt

well bought a new card recently. went to install it today to connected the card to the pci e slot connected the 6pin pcie cable to the card using the 2 mlex connectors and i am using a dvi to hmdi cable. went to turn on the computer and nothing. my monitor will switch to hdmi mode though so it is detecting something. what will i do next?? im pretty stumped

If you use the onboard GPU as the primary display adapter with the new one plugged in as well, is the 9800 gt listed in device manager?

also my twin molex to pci e adater only has 5 pins. there is only a blank one on the bottom middle one

funny thing is if i set the bios to run just pci as primary display. the card will work but this is what the display looks like

That could either be a faulty GPU or a faulty PCI connector. Something is definitely broken though.

i am using a dual molex to pci e connector. the was no pci e connector on my psu so i used 2 of the molex connectors. any way t test if i have a faulty gpu

When I said pci connector im talking about the actual pci e slot on the motherboard, not the 6 pin power supply.

ah when i had my old 8400gs in the same slot though it was working fine?
