Hi

I am looking to buy a modem before christmas and was wondering if you could give me details on the type of modem i am interested in.

I am looking for a 56K External modmem (are they actualy that much better than a internal) and possibly a USB one - what is the difference between USB external modems and serial modems - is there a performance increase etc.

My uses are mainly online games and downloading while occasionaly the odd net surf so i need a high quailty, fast and reliable modem. I have had only internal modems before and they have proved unsatisfactory to my uses - slow, unreliable etc. You might say "why not go for cable or adsl" well yes i would love to have it except its not available in my area yet unfortuanlty.

Ok are there any modems not to get or TO GET?????

thanx for anything

for perf there is no diff between com/usb/internal

it's depend of the modem speed itself

the last protocol used is not 56K but V92 which is little more faster

with usb model you can plug & unplug modem when pc run, & you out of 1 comm i think that's all
maybe you have also no separate alim like with comm model

i think, but not sure, US Robotics is a good brand
