Was just browsing thru rangefinder lenses on eBay and saw a ton of
Leica lenses on auction with no bidders but the prices were
astronomical!! Just wondering, is the difference in quality (wrt to
high-end SLR lenses) so high to justify such high prices for *used*
Leica lenses?

That depends..
Some Leica lens are worth the high price but most are simply
overpriced by the seller.
I've bought Leica lens at camera shows and used camera shops for less
than the starting price of many on eBay.

Yep. At two recent used camera trade fairs here, I found both extremes.
A 500 C/M with the Sonnar 80mm f/2.8 and an A12 back had low end
prices of CAD$1100 or so; and two tables over, the identical rig was
being asked at $2500. One fellow wanted $3500 (150mm f/4 in lieu of
80mm), and on the other side of the hall, the same rig was being asked
at $1600.

I was still recovering from 7D shock at the time ... I believe that if I
wait until autumn, I'll see even better prices ... but now I'm facinated
by the RB67 with 180mm and extension tubes... although not very portable.

Cheers,
Alan.

Leica is a collectors market. Value and price are related to rarity and
condition - like coins or stamps.

One odd thing I saw at a photo fair/swap meet was an M Lieca body with
an all black Russian KMZ made Industar-61 L/D lens on it. It was
about US$210.
