Single 7970ghz for eyefinity?

Will a single 7970ghz edition be eough for bf3 on 3 23.6" monitors with good frame rates?

You definitely wont be able to max everything out but the game will be playable with some reduced settings and still look great. BF3 was the first game I played thru when I got my 7950 (overclocked past the 7970 ghz edition). The game looked stunning in EyeFinity even without all the settings maxed out.

Can i put a cheaper amd card in with the 7970, like add a 7950 and increase my gpu output?

yes you can, but the problem is that it would be like 2 7950 in crossfire.
