This might not be the right ng for this but since it could be a problem for
some, they should know that if you are useing a Canon camera and recording
to a Lexar storage device, you could lose pictures. This was on the Photo

I have a 20D with a 1GB 80x Lexar and a 2GB 80x Lexar. Never had any issue
(I often press the preview button immediately after shooting).

As am I. (Two of them actually 1GB 80X professional -- only one
at a time though. :-) But the Nikons are not Cannons, and at least in
the D70, default behavior is to display the image automatically as soon
as it is saved, so there is no need to press the display button at that
time. (Yes, this can be turned off to conserve power, but I get enough
battery life even with it on so as to not worry.) When photographing in
the dark, I might turn it off so as to not betray my position -- but
only if I had all of the flash units remote, and none on the camera.
Not too likely to happen.

It sounds like a "race condition".

I wonder whether the firmware fix for the Cannons would be to
simply make the display automatic, so they don't have people accustomed
to going right for the display button for instant "chimping". :-)

Enjoy,
DoN.

Shot a couple of hundred images with a 1G 80X Lexar until my Sandisk
Extreme III's came in and never had this problem but then I don't do
much previewing in the camera even when shooting RAW-LJPEG.

Not just that! Some Canons can lose pictures without the Lexar problem.

Canon announcement of both problems. (Both links below are to the same
page):

Lexar announcement of the second problem:

Since Canon and Lexar have good reputations, I wonder if this is
symptomatic of wider problems elsewhere?

Same here but I only shoot RAW, apparantly it has to be RAW+JPEG, should be
easy to fix in firmware.

I wish they would post more information about the conditions under which
this deletion happens - so we could avoid those action.

I use a number of 1 GB 80x cards with my Canon 20D and have never lost
any images.

Well except for the time I lost a card full of images. But I don't think
that was Lexar's or Canon's fault.

I have been shooting RAW+JPEG since about day 2. Hopefully there will be a
FW fix, but my point is that I have never seen the issue, so its obviously
not something blatantly broken.

Well then it must not be happening anywhere.
Of what value are positive statements about the cards
when Canon has already admitted there is a problem?
