Thoughts on a Video card for this low end system

I have an Acer Aspire AM3470G-UW10P Fusion Quad-Core A6-3620 2.2 GHz Desktop PC.

I have upgraded the base specs to:
• AMD A8-3850 APU Quad-Core Processor
o CPU Clock 2.9 GHz
o Cores 4
o L2 Cache 4 MB
• G.SKILL Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1333
• Coolmax ZX-700 700W Power Supply –
o 700W, ATX, 80 Plus, 140mm Fan, NVIDIA SLI, ATI CrossFire
• I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64

I was thinking on getting a MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card.
I think now though this may be like putting a supped up racing engine in a 1972 AMC Gremlin.

With the specs I have above, does the community have any good ideas for a card that I should get? I am not picky about whether it is Nvidia or AMD.

What is your monitor resolution and what games are you trying to play?

GTX 660 is a great card and the A8-3850 isn't that slow. I don't see why would couldn't handle a nice card with that system, even if you won't be getting i5-3570 performance.

the 660 would be more of an upgrade than the rest of the system could push, but have no problem with it if that's what you want.

the APU's....... don't see a lot of upgrade over what you had. the APU's alone run best on faster ram. 1866 would have been a better "upgrade' than swapping the processors............ ( expense )

anyways that's neither here nor there.

I don't have any specific game in mind, maybe GW2 and Skyrim, but I just wanted to upgrade to something that fit well.
I ended up being a mix match system based on things I had and able to get easily enough.
The monitor will be 1920 x 1080, last upgrade after GPU, but right now its 1440x900.

You will get some CPU bottleneck in some games with your CPU but you still will want a good graphics card for 1920x1080. I'd get something along the lines of 7850, 7870 or GTX 660. You will still get very capable performance in the majority of games with that CPU + a good CPU.

Some games it won't matter (yours is roughly the same as the A8-3870k shown here. This is with a 7970):
