Greetings. I am intrested to build a new rig, but I am confused between the two options I mentioned on the topic's title, i7 3770k with Z77 mobo VS i7 3820 with X79.
I know there were a lot of posts with the same "battle", 3770k vs 3820, but I am still confused on which to pick. The purposes of this rig are: Programming, some video encoding, and hardcore gaming. Furthermore, I am studying Computer Engineering and I may need some more heavy duty in the near future. Now let me mention the 2 set ups:

1st set up:

Mobo: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4288#ov

CPU: i7 3820

RAM: Corsair RAM DDR3 8GB (4x2)Kit 1600MHz Vengeance

2nd set up:

Mobo: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4441#ov

CPU: i7 3770k

RAM: Corsair RAM DDR3 8GB (2x4)Kit 1600MHz Vengeance C8

As you can see, I am going to use 8gb of ram in both set ups, so apart from quad channel and dual channel difference, there's not another difference on the RAM.
About the price, it's about the same, it's only about 60euro difference between the 2 rigs.
I am not going to upgrade to the 6-core CPU on s2011 if I pick this one, for at least the next 1-2 years.

I am only going to use a single GPU card, and especially this one from my old rig: http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/ENGTX460_DirectCU_TOP2DI1GD5/ .

So, in your opinion, what rig do you think it would be better for me?
And one more question: This GPU will boost down my computer? Will it work fine with those CPUs or do I need to upgrade my GPU too?

Thank you in advance!

3770K is better. If it's cheaper too it's a no brainer.

However, for "hardcore gaming" i7 +GTX460 is way suboptimal.

i wouldn't go with a 460 its 2 gens old if you're gaming illd you with a i5 3570k or maybe i7 3770 but for a good graphics a 660 is good its probably nearly as important as a processor in gaming.

Graphics is more important, actually.

Save your money and buy an i5, remember there is no such thing as future proofing.

The graphics card is what actually counts in games, thats why I hate it when alienware or cyberpower puts an i7 and gt 630 in a machine and calls it a "gaming machine".
