1GB of onboard memory or 2GB?

I recently asked on this website which would be the best graphics card for under £150, someone recommended the xfx 7850 core edition, with 1GB of DDR5 memory. So I read some reviews on this card, and what people are saying is that 1GB isn't enough for games like bf3, skyrim, just cause 2 etc...
Will it be enough if i overclocked this card?

More about onboard memory
  1. if you're playing at 1600 or above I wouldn't touch a 1gig card.
  2. If you demand the 2560*1600 with 4*AA experience or multi-monitor setup: yes, you will have problems with the 1GB variant.

If you have 1 monitor with 1920*1080 max resolution the extra memory won't impact you that much/at all.
  3. Nice, thx, ive only got 1 monitor at 1920x1080 so should be fine I guess!:)

"much at all".................. nice to throw that in. so you do agree that 1gig isn't enough ?...........

should give some insight. there's another about settings and vram but can't find it. DUDE, buy the 2gig card. it's too important not to have it.

  5. I'd love to see a nice comparison in different resolutions etc of the two side by side so we can see where the difference starts to show (this could be swifty_morgans link for all I know, but it is blocked here).
I don't exactly know where the differences start to kick in, a bit after 1600 seems like where it starts, but I don't think the impact is noticable yet under 1920.
But whether that impact is worth the extra 20 pounds to get the 2 gig is up to Oakcottons wallet.

But if anyone has a good comparison benchmark I'd take that advise.
  6. benchmarks are only good for frame rates. they never really show the difference in how smoothly a game will play 1gig vs 2gig. until more people realize that frame rates aren't the sole reason behind bench marks they will always be tainted.

what do you mean the link is blocked ? from your country ? from toms hardware ?
  7. From work.
They also won't let me go on youtube or reddit
