Dell Vostro 1500 laptop display problem

Hi guys.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop and my problem is that the LCD screen blacks out when I put the power supply in. It works fine when on battery, but not when the power cord is inserted. Is this a inverter problem or is this a power supply problem? I can also mention that when the power supply is attached and the screen is black, I can get a 3/10 of a second glimpse of picture when I close the lid and open it up again. Very bizarre problem. Do you guys have any tips for me?

If you use the keyboard controls to adjust the display brightness, does anything happen?

No, unfortunately not. The screen is completely out when the power supply is attached, except the mentioned 3/10 of a second when I open the lid.

Does the issue persist when the computer is booting, or is it only when the OS has loaded?

Actually, even when the power supply is attached, I can see a blink of the Dell screen in the start-up. But after that it's completely blacked out.

So if you have the unit completely shut down, and then start it up with the AC adapter connected, you get the same symptoms at the Dell logo screen before the Windows loading screen?
