i7920@4ghz
6gb ddr3@1600
hdd
2x 4890
1920x1080P

My computer is 4 years old and can still play some modern games on max settings(namely, Guild Wars 2). I haven't upgraded it at all except for the second 4890 which I recently picked up on Ebay for around 30$. I have been itching for a true upgrade for quite a bit, so I was thinking of picking up an SSD for christmas. When I upgrade my GPU though, I want to make sure it is the best possible GPU for my system, as in it should nearly bottleneck my cpu and should nearly fill up the entire bandwidth on a PCIE2.0 slot. Have we reached this time yet? If not, how long do you think I will have to wait? Then again, I could always just pick up a third 4890.

There shouldn't be anything that could bottleneck the i7-920 right now. I would recommend a HD7970.

+1
Go get yourself a good HD 7970.Depending on the game you will see a performance jump ranging from 50 to 250 percent (approximately).
I reccomend this HD 7970.

Or if you're a hardcore overclocker and you can afford to spend some more money you can go for a HD 7950 Crossfire Setup.

This will give you a HUGE performance increase in games and applications which support Crossfire.

And don't even worry about not having PCI-E 3. PCI-E 2 is just as good.
