Hello I am trying to decide between two MSI gtx670 OC graphics cards.

One is this $319.00 DOESN'T have FROZR IV cooling fans

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

And one is this $369.00 DOES have FROZR

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I'm curious if the cheaper one is as reliable as the more expensive. What do you guys think?

ThANK YOU

I have two 670's.MSI's GTX 670 Power Edition uses the famous Twin Frozr IV cooler from the MSI Lightning and comes with a large clock speed boost out of the box, making its default clock speed even higher than GTX 680 stock clocks. Here is some Professional reliable reviews w/ Benchmarks

So you wouldn't recommend the cheaper msi card? Is the cooling suspect?

Oh the 7950 wins hands down sorry. But that's if you're going to overclock. If you're lazy then go for the 670.

Food for thought: The 7950 beats the 670 when they are set to 1250MHz (670's highest stable clock speed) and the 7950 can go even further (1350MHz) I do not recommend ever taking a card to its limit though because it causes the cards to deteriorate at a accelerated rate. Also it all depends on your cooler to. The vapor-x was the cooler that allowed the 7950 to reach that clock. If it was reference cooler it probably be only able to reach ~1275-1285MHz.

Never buy a reference card. They tend to be slow, hot, and noisy.

Hmmm... that's odd my son has the vapor x 7950 it about 10% slower then my 670 the 7950 is a great card though go with that if you prefer but it is a matter of ones opinion which is better i can assure you that. http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-r... (670 PE OC)

I have a vapor-x to and it beat my friends GTX 670? He could only get his to 1250 and run stable with the twin frozr cooler. I managed to get my 7950 to 1350. What clock could you get your 670 to? And could you tell me your son's clock to?

That's really high for the 670. Nicely done.

Is his card the boost version or the regular version? I know that the boost has problems getting to overclock to over 1300.

How much % performance gain is it from the 7950oc and 670oc when you overclock them?

They both come somewhat overclocked right? Then you overclock some more?

Yes. And alot with the 7950 from (900 something to 1350MHz). Bigcyco did extremely good with his 670 but still not as good as what I got mine to because the 670 just doesn't have that amazing oc ability . But really once you get those points the performance difference is minimum. The 7950 beats the 670 by about 2-3%, but is also more expensive. Also it depends on the overclock-er. I'm very experienced, and Bigcyco is also-evidence from his 670 clock. I suggest going for the 7950 with a good cooler because it's cheaper and more bang for your buck performance then the 670.

Also back to the original question. Do you guys trust the single fan cooling of the cheaper MSI card that I posted up top?

And where should I buy these from amazon, newegg, tigerdirect? Any insider places to buy from. I LOVE DEALS

Lol. It's a pretty damn powerful card still. If he ever wants to overclock more just tell him to completely unlock the voltage (because it's the boost version it's still somewhat capped) and then keep adding to the voltage and see where he can get it to something stable. I recommend not going over 1325MHz just for safety and longevity issues. I have mine set to 1325MHz it can go higher then 1350 for sure but I have killed gpu's by doing this haha.

Decisive answer: If you're not going to overclock go for the 670 with the twin frozr. If you are going to overclock get the 7950 sapphire vapor-x non boost.

With AMD's new drivers they are both on par. With the 670 beating it in some games that are gtx evolved. And then the AMD beats the gtx in AMD evolved games. But the difference is literally 1-2 fps.

If not overclocked 7950 is 10 to 15% slower then 670 if overclocked it can be close and go either way i have seen 670 murder 7950 and i have seen 7950 murder 670 it all depends :)

They're pretty much on par now after the new driver update for AMD. It's an 1-2 fps lead the 7950 pulls in some games and vice versa for the 670.

Mine are performing like a beauty right now. I have a +15% effectiveness. Unless your overclock is beating his. What's the fps difference? I'm going to also run a test with my friend to see the benchmark results at stock just for comparison with the benchmarks I saw at her house. I'll post them as soon as the test is done.

Heh yeah. I have mine crossfired. That paired with a 120MHz refresh rate monitro equals something really beautiful. And my cards get on average 135fps. That still beats the refresh rate on my monitor. I'm thinking this setup will last me another 3 gens hopefully. 4 if I milk it.

another question if you don't mind. The cards that are the OC version come with software to OC the cards? Or they come overclocked and if you go even furthur with OCing and break it no warranty?

Also I was wondering about the MSI versio of the hd7950 it's at the top of the page. Is it a no no or can I pull the trigger. It's 300 bucks and I like that.

They don't come with software to overclock (at least not my sapphire, don't know about MSI though, probably not though). You have to use a third party overclocking tool or enter BIOS and do it (not recommended for newer people) And you'll have to read the warranty terms on it to find that out (but overclock anyway and if your gpu dies somewhere down the line just send it back in and say it was faulty).

What are the specs on your current PC. If I'm asking too many questions let me know and I'll try to find answers elsewhere. It's just nice talking to a human who knows what is going on.
I've learned a lot in the past few days about building PCs and the more comparrisons I do between PCs helps me know what will work for the one Im trying to build.

Specs:
CPU: i7- 2700k @4.6GHz
MOBO- Gigabyte UP4 (can't remember the full name but it's somewhere close to that)
GPU: Dual Sapphire 7950 vapor-x overclocked to 1315MHz.
RAM- Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3-1600 MHz
PSU: SeaSonic M12II 750

I also have an 120gb OCZ Agility 3 solid state drive as my primary drive where I store the OS and my games. My secondary drive is 1TB Western Digital Black Caviar HDD where I store everything besides games.

The cpu is also overclocked from base about 1.2 GHZ. As you can tell I like overclocking alot :)

So just to be 100% certain this http://www.amazon.com/MSI-R7950-TWIN-FROZR-3GD5/dp/B007... card is the card we have been talking about. I know it isn't the sapphire brand but everything should be pretty much the same right?
Also I want to make sure this is the OVERCLOCKED VERSION. Thanks as soon as I hear the feedback I'm pullin the trigger and will have my first PC part ordered.

Yup. And MSI makes reliable cards I've heard. It also has the twin frozr (a beautiful cooler, friend has one) Once you get it try overclocking (if you want) if you have any questions about ocing come back, make a thread, and about it and I probably will reply, or someone with equal experience as me.

Man you and big CYCO have been the best. I am soooooooo greatful to you guys. When I get my gaming PC list together would I be able to PM you the list and see if you think it is a good build?

That would be awesome. I'm really new to computer stuff, but I love learning new things. I didn't know how to do carpentry till I kept doing it, now I can. I didn't know how to plump until I tried. Or ride dirt bikes, or be decent at Iracing, well you get the point.

I'm a do it yourselfer. And the fastest way to learn is from other folks. Thanks you guys. Gonna go buy that card now.
