Hey,
I planning on getting an iphone, are you able to unlock one and how long will it take?

I wouldn't bother unlocking an iPhone in Canada unless you can get rogers to give you a truly unlimited data plan and not an 'unlimited' data plan.
 
The iphone likes to use wireless data alot, and with any Canadian provider right now, that's expensive because our data plans suck.  
 
Howver if you don't mind a $200/mth data bill have at it, a friend at work didn't mind that when he first got it because everyone thought he was 'so cool', but now he kinda wants a crackberry instead until rogers fixes their data plans to be like the American plans.
